Msgr Kuriakose Bahranikulangara is consecrated archbishop of Faridabad

The long cherished dream of the Syro-Malabarians in Delhi and around has finally been realized! Msgr. Kuriakose Bharanikulangara was consecrated Archbishop of the newly established diocese of Faridabad comprising of the whole territory from Delhi to the northern most borders of India. The consecration ceremony was devout, solemn and colorful. A crowd of ten thousand people witnessed the sacred ceremony of the episcopal ordination. English, Hindi, Malayalam, German and Spanish were used in the ceremony. Archbishop Kuriakose’s elderly mother as well as his other family members were present in the air-conditioned Thyagaraja Indoor Stadium where the ceremony took place. MST was mentioned time and again during the program. Fr. S. Kizhakkeyil’s role in the initial stage of the Faridabad mission was acknowledged in the documentary of history presented at the beginning of the ceremony. Several MST priests including the Vice General Rev. Fr. Paul Mudathotty, Councilor Rev. Fr. Thomas Chirackal, and R.D. Rev. Fr. Thomas Karamel participated in the consecration ceremony. This evening (Sunday-27th May) the second phase of the ceremony will take place at Faridabad Cathedral with the formal installation of the archbishop. MST wishes the new diocese and its archbishop God’s blessings in abundance in bearing witness to Christ and in evangelization ad gentes!
