Syro Malabar Major archbishop His beatitude Mar George Alanchery is appointed Cardinal by Pope Benedict 16th today, the feast of Epiphany. He will receive the title in an official ceremony(consistery) at Vatican on 18th February together with  22 newly created cardinals. A cardinal is also  called the prince of church and is member of the college of cardinals and will be eligible to participate in the conclave where new pope will be elected. At present there are 192 Cardinals out which 109 are eligible to participate in the conclave .83 who are above 80 are not eligible to participate in the election of new Pope
