MSTs new Mission centre and priest's residence SANTHOME in Sathyamanagalam (Sathy) within the Ramanathapuram diocese was blessed on January 4, 2014 at 4.30 pm by Mar Paul Alappatt, Bishop of Ramanathapuram in the presence of MST priests from Mandya, priests from diocese of Ramanathapuram and sisters from various religious congregations.
Bishop Mar Alappat blessed the house and offered mass and placed the blessed sacrament. Fr Jose Palakeel, the Vice Director of MST blessed the sacred heart image and led the kudumbapratishta. Frs Kureekal Regional Director of Mandya and Fr Salas Karikandathil (priest in charge of Santhome, Sathy) lighted the fire. There was a short meeting at the end of the function and dinner was served to all.
This is a major milestone for Mandya region, which has now its first house in Tamil Nadu. Fr Salas started living in a rented house in Sathyamangalam a few years back and was looking for land. Since no suitable land was found he returned to Mandya in early 2013, but within one month of his return, MST could get a land which it wanted to purcahase. Construction of new house was started in July and completed quickly. The new house has two bed rooms, one dining, kitchen hall and a small chapel.
Bishop Alapatt in his homily and speech invited MST to open more houses in the diocese of Ramanathapuram.
