JATH MISSION, SANGLI

The beginnings of Mission station at Jath took the embryonic form on 8th December 1999 when Fr. Siby Vadakeputhenpura started staying at Jath for preparatory survey in a rented house, Tama Koli Nivas near the bus stand Jath. Later Fr. Jose Cheriampanatt joined Fr. Siby to facilitate the efforts to start an English Medium School at Jath as decided by Planning commitee of Sangli Mission.

On 1st of January 2001, place of stay was shifted from Tama Koli Nivas to a house at Bhosale Vasti, Shegaeon Road, near to the proposed land for purchase. After repair and maintenance this house was made suitable for stay. Five acres of land was purchased at Bhosale Vasti for school on 25th January 2001. Rev. Sisters of M.S.M.I. Congregation came to the service of mission and a convent was inaugurated on 28th May 2001 as a branch of Chiplun convent. Their arrival boosted up the activities. Alphonsa school at Jath was inaugurated by Sarpanch of Jath Mr. Nazir Mulla and the Foundation stone was laid by Fr. Varghese Monoth for the proposed School on 18th June 2001.

MAIN ACTIVITIES

Primary School:- Jath Mission has a primary school with a strength of 200 students.

Water shed programme:- Jath is geographically a dry land. Scarcity of water for basic needs and farming is a big challenge here. Hence we are focussing on this need of the people. At present five watersheds were prepared in three villages which aims at people's participation and a partial comfort to water scarcity. It also promotes forming the self-help groups.
