The rural development activities, started ten
years back in the tribal village called Varachpada- is progressing well.
Now we have practically withdrawn from the constant monitoring. After
a long period of group farming, now individuals are helped to take up
the responsibilities. People who were once starving and
struggling for survival are empowered to handle the agricultural programme
which provide job opportunities and control the economy of the village.

Mr Vittal Dattu Shivare the leader of the Prerana Adivasi Youth is
honoured with state level 'Sheti Nisht Shetkari ' award instituted for
the model farmers. Door Darshan has made documentary film in different
languages on the fantastic progress of this tribal village and shown
all over the country. Vittal is really a gentle man. His role is commendable.
He carefully follows the Agro- techniques we taught. His extensive plantation
-with hundreds of healthy attractive trees consists of cashews, Jack
fruit, mango, lemon, etc etc maybe

something unique for a tribal young man in the country.
Together with the economic development Vittal has created a good rapport
in the society. Let Vittal progress more and more and inspire others.
Now the effort is to replicate the Varachapada success story in other
tribal areas. To achieve this goal,
the Agro based education - ' Prerana Krushi Vidya Kendra' ( P.K.V.K) is
started at Lobhipada- in Shahpur taluka managed by Prerana Adivasi Mahila
Sangh.(P.A.M.S). P K V K is a small beginning for the Agro education and
all round development of the tribal children. Started with single class
room, school orchard, play ground, Bio-gas plant, etc located in a two
acres plot. |
|
The waste land is developed into a beautiful school campus. The Badam
trees for shade -Neem trees for healthy and favorable environment -
Ashoka trees all around the campus, nurtured meticulously, can make
this more attractive within a short time. The school orchard with various
fruits trees has to arrest the malnutrition prevalent among the tribal
children. The ground-nut cultivated in the school garden by the children
is kept for many months use. We could share our product in large quantity
with our less fortunate children affected by HIV and the sex workers
children looked after in the rehabilitation homes. This is part our
children help children program to Inculcate concern for others in the
young mind.

PRERANA ADIVASI MAHILA SANGH ( P.A.M.S)
P.A.M.S is a registered organisation of tribal ladies which consist of
13members, who monitors all the development program in the village. Within
2 years time they have proved the women power inherent in them, in the
progress of the village. Their enthusiasm and perseverance is marvelous.
The leadership of' Hassibai Jettu Lobhi' who is just 40 years and also
a grandmother is really praiseworthy. The adult education
classes are conducted for the women during noon -break. A class room for
'Prerana Krishi Vidyalaya, construction of 1KM road to make access to
the nearby town, the school orchard, construction of watershed program
sponsored by our benefactor
Mr. S.R. Paranjpe, bio gas plant attached to the agro school for the supply
of boiled milk and safe drinking water etc are some of the major projects
implemented by the PAMS. Besides the saving bank account for the organisation
started with Rs._1300- Rs 100each(2dayswages) ie voluntary contribution
from the members, they maintain self help group account and individual
savings account also. Communication facilities provided for the remote
areas by BSNL's WLL has made our contact with the
remote centres more feasible. Even old illiterate ladies learned to speak
on the telephone. President Hassibai and youth leader Vittal has trained
the tribal to make use of the telephone facility in a thrifty way. |

Before concluding we would like to introduce little Janu (Dnaneshwary)
to you. The abandoned 2 year old baby was brought on 30thMarch 2004.
Little Janu was very much anaemic and under weight due to starvation.
Due to the malfunctioning of kidney, heart, liver, lungs, doctors were
very doubtful about her survival. The pot bellied Janu could not stand
and \Dove; not even cry. The back bone was deformed.
She looked very pale and gloomy. By the grace of God she responded very
well to the tender care medication and nutritious food. Now she is healthy
and active. She smiles beautifully and make everybody
happy- Yes little Janu looks very angelic -anyone feel the presence
of infant Jesus. Now Janu longs for the arrival of other children who
are in different children homes for summer holidays and then to start
schooling next year.
